TFI63 Women as Stewards of Forests explores the vital but often overlooked roles that women play in shaping forested landscapes across the tropics. This edition is structured around four guiding questions: What gendered barriers do women face in forest landscapes? What initiatives enable their participation? What are the impacts when women are meaningfully engaged? And what enabling conditions are needed to support their leadership?
Through five thematic sections—women as carriers of knowledge, meaningful participation, women-led entrepreneurship, empowerment and leadership, and women changing power relations—the publication showcases diverse experiences across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. This edition includes 26 articles ranging from academic research to practical stories, including three feature articles providing a special lens through video's, interviews and photo's.
A key takeaway from this edition is that transformative change does not result from isolated actions. It emerges when inclusive principles are embedded across all levels of forest governance — from grassroots organizations to national policy; from customary institutions to global frameworks.
TFI63 offers a compelling call to embed gender-transformative strategies in forest policies and practices, and to centre women in efforts toward sustainable and equitable landscapes.
